Ice Cube is a jack of all trades. He’s done the music thing, the acting thing and the directing thing, starring in some pretty cool movies that he’s directed to boot (Friday and Barbershop come to mind). In the family drama, The Longshots, which hits theaters this Friday, he gets the opportunity to act under the direction of another jack of all trades, Fred Durst.

That’s right, former Limp Bizkit front man, Fred Durst, the same guy who sang about getting all the “Nookie” is directing movies now. The Longshots, his first feature film, is an ambitious project about the first female quarterback (Jasmine Plummer) to play in the Pop Warner football tourney and recapture the spirit of a fledgling Illinois community.
Ice Cube plays Jasmine’s uncle-coach and describes his role in The Longshots as his dream role because “it lets him rock the Raiders’ colors.” Durst, who has always maintained a certain modesty about his band, Limp Bizkit’s, talents, (or lack thereof), said to a fan years back on MTV (and I’m paraphrasing): “What do you like about us anyway? Don’t you like anyone else? I mean, c’mon man, we suck.”
Hopefully, he has more admiration for his directing ability. The Longshots aims to be a crowd pleasing family film. Good luck Fred!
