It’s a long way from Liverpool’s Penny Lane.
Sir Paul McCartney and his new lady friend are cruising across the U.S. of A., and getting their kicks on Route 66.

The former Beatle took off from his Hamptons home on July 31 with Nancy Shevell, apparently to drive the entire length of that most classic of American roadways, from Illinois all the way to Santa Monica. The famous highway’s heyday was in the 1950s, so perhaps it was fitting that the couple guzzled gas 50s-style in McCartney’s Ford Bronco.
They were first spotted at a gas station in Springfield, Illinois, where some lucky fans got a picture with the rock and roll legend. They were seen having vegetarian dinner in Oklahoma City, staying at the Ambassador Hotel in Amarillo, Texas and visiting the Cadillac Ranch, a bizarre and very American collection of Cadillacs half-buried in an open field just outside Amarillo.

Paul and Nancy were later seen checking out antiques at a shop in Tucumcari on one side of New Mexico and the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial on the other side of the state in Gallup. After that, it was Flagstaff and Albuquerque and into the sunset: that seems to be the end of the Beatle sightings.
Wonder if the pair got any pictures standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona…
