Michael Phelps, the unbelievably dominant American swimmer, is now the winningest Olympic athlete ever, earning his sixth gold medal of the Beijing Games on Thursday night, and breaking another world record to boot.
Phelps is aiming towards winning eight gold medals, which would surpass Mark Spitz. Spitz’s seven from the 1972 Olympics currently stands as the single greatest performance in Olympic history.
