He’s the greatest Olympian ever.

His name has become synonymous with gold. And he now has more of it than Mark Spitz, Carl Lewis, and Juvenile’s teeth.

Michael Phelps, the unbelievably dominant American swimmer, is now the winningest Olympic athlete ever, earning his sixth gold medal of the Beijing Games on Thursday night, and breaking another world record to boot.

Phelps is aiming towards winning eight gold medals, which would surpass Mark Spitz.  Spitz’s seven from the 1972 Olympics currently stands as the single greatest performance in Olympic history.

From what we have seen thus far of Phelps’s capacities, to say that it is likely that he will complete his golden octet and break the record for most gold medals in a single Games is being modest. With two races still remaining, the world awaits the inevitable.
