A Cleanse that Makes Your Skin — and Soul Glow!

Posted on 30 Jul 2010 at 12:22pm

Sounds too good to be true right? Well I just did a diet that made me glow, for real! It’s the third time I have done this cleanse and I love it more and more each time. You’re probably saying, “well hurry up already and tell me!” so here goes.

Let me first tell you that I do not use this as a diet, I do it as an Intestinal cleanse.  It was widely talked about when Beyonce did it to shed a lot of weight for her role in Dream Girls.  Guessed it yet?   Yep, it’s the lemonade diet, or if you want the  proper name — “The Master Cleanse”.

This cleanse is an all-liquid diet. You can do anywhere between 5 to 15 days. It has very basic ingredients: water, lemons, cayenne pepper and maple syrup.

Be ready for super early nights though, as you’ll be craving food at night and not working out full throttle.  So here’s how it went for me.

Day 1: I work 9am to 3pm and peed about 20 times — and that is no exaggeration!  But that much peeing is a good thing to flush out all the toxins. I ran some errands after work.  The thing with the master cleanse is the drink keeps you satisfied, so at no point was I hungry. Bedtime was at 8:30 pm after a smooth move.

Day 2: I woke up with absolutely no dark circles under my eyes, and I already had a brighter complexion!  I also spent about 45 min. smooth moving it! Definitely the worst part of the cleanse, but so necessary for the toxins to be released.  At work I felt energized and in a great mood. After work I re-organized my whole closet, and then back to bed at 8:15 pm!

Day 3: By far the hardest day. It’s not that I was hungry, I just missed the act of eating…sitting down with friends and having a meal…tasting the flavors and the consistency of foods. After work, I took a bath and even took a cook book in with me.  I read every single recipe and made a list of what I would make for dinner Friday.

Day 4: I woke up with a glowing bright face, again with no dark circles. I said I didn’t do the cleanse for weight loss but by Day 4 I had lost 6 pounds!  For the most part, it was water retention — but definitely added to my liking when I saw myself in the mirror. Still no hunger either. I just kept drinking the potion, but I have to admit that everyone was starting to have faces like in the cartoons  — big heads as huge steaks and chickens!! Bed again by 8:15 pm.

Day 5: My last day is here!  I had a date with my boo at the Hollywood Bowl that night, and it’s illegal to go to the bowl without a picnic! The day went like a breeze, I felt great and my skin just looks so glowing.

I will say that this cleanse definitely agreed with me, but my friend did it and it made her tired and grumpy.  So for those that like it, it really does wonders.  If you don’t feel great, then there are plenty of other cleanses to choose.  For me, the reason I know it helps my skin and body feel so great is because I was actually hydrated! I’m really bad at drinking water but on this liquid cleanse I was getting so much H20, my body and skin was replenished.

A Few Tips …

Do it with a friend or a group of people.  I either do it with my whole office, or this time with my boyfriend. It’s always better to have a support group behind you to limit the cravings!

If you really need a change from the potion, you’re allowed a peppermint tea. You can also use lime instead of lemons for a slight taste change from time to time.

Lastly, go to Costco to buy all the ingredients.   It comes out so much cheaper there because you have to use a LOT of lemons and maple syrup.

Celebrity Spotlight: Demi Lovato D-Signed

Posted on 30 Jul 2010 at 11:44am

These days, it seems like if you’re a Disney star, you must also become a fashion designer. Everyone from Miley Cyrus to Selena Gomez (who just recently launched her clothing line) have all done it!

Another tween star has just crossed over into the fashion industry, and this time it’s Disney star Demi Lovato. Joining forces with Disney, Lovato has created D-Signed to be sold exclusively at Target.

Lovato says that her new line will be unlike any other tween designer’s clothing line.

D-Signed is inspired by her character’s wardrobe in “Sonny With A Chance” offering what would seem like outfits right out of Sonny Monroe’s closet.  The line will provide young girls with all their fashion needs from graphic tees, hip hoodies and cute skirts, to jewelry and bags.

Lovato’s new clothing line will hit Target racks this Sunday, August 1 for all of her fans to sport.

Check out her adorable video promoting the new clothing line!

Recycle Your Makeup!

Posted on 30 Jul 2010 at 11:29am

You rely on your makeup to help you look good, so now you can use your old makeup to help the earth look good too! Instead of throwing away your used empty makeup containers, recycle them!

But since some community recyclers do not accept packaging and materials that are not easily recognized, many cosmetic companies are now creating makeup recycling programs — some are even offering incentives for helping the environment.

Back to MAC

(I’m a MAC fanatic myself, so I LOVE this!) MAC cosmetics offers the Back to MAC program which allows you to trade in any six original empty MAC containers for a free lip stick of your choice at any MAC counter. Participating MAC Pro stores will let you trade your empties in for a lip stick, lip gloss or eye shadow!

Return to Origins

Origins created a recycling program called Return to Origins, which allows you to bring your empty cosmetic bottles, tubes, jars, etc. (regardless of the brand) to any Origins counter or store to be recycled.  As an incentive for recycling, Origins also offers a free sample of your choice from their high-performance skin care products.

Lush Recycling

If you are a lover of LUSH all-natural cosmetics, you’ll be happy to know that any products that come in plastic bottles can be recycled with drinking bottles at your local recycling facility. The black plastic tubs can be brought into any LUSH store and will be remoulded in their very own recycling machines. Also, any used LUSH tops and caps can be brought in to the store and the staff will reuse them!

Now you can feel a little better about being a makeup junkie! I know I do…
