Call Me a Bathologist3 Comments

I work hard, play hard and bathe hard.  Baths are my thing.  I love setting them, dressing them, and then soaking in them.  By dressing, I mean taking them from just hot water to a whole new world.

We live in very fast-paced, stressful times. Something like a nice hot bath can stop all of that stress, even if it’s just for 1o minutes.  I’m still like a child – I have “bath times”…except it’s not my mother shouting at me from the kitchen to have a bath, it’s me telling my friends “I’m leaving the beach to put a facemask on and soak for a while” bath.

But let me tell you how to make it interesting.

Epsom salts is my number one tip. They are every cheap. You can get them at grocery stores like Vons for only $1.99 a carton, or CVS has lavender Epsom salts for just $2.99.  These salts have many benefits: they relax sore muscles, resolve skin problems, and release toxins accumulated in the body.

Epsom salts also leave the skin smooth and soft.  But why stop there?  This is where the “dressing” comes into place and why I call myself a “Bathologist”.  Add some essential oils or some lavenders strands.  My favorite technique is using roses or other flowers that I have that are about to die.  Instead of throwing them out, I use them in my bath.  Rose petals look and smell delicious floating about!

Same goes for milk.  If you have a lot left a day before it’s supposed to expire, why waste it?  Add some to your bath and it makes it feel so luscious.  If you’re looking for a specific colored bath, you can also add food coloring (like red for Valentine’s day, or green for St. Patrick’s Day. So fun!)

There really aren’t any rules.  Just get creative with it!  Here are a few of my creations:

Stressed?  Add Ying-Yang oil.

Looking to relax after a long day?  Use a Lavender oil and Epsom salt combo, or try Vanilla.

Tired and looking for a boost?  Eucalyptus and Peppermint with Epsom salts or regular sea salts work wonderful.  Skin needing some help?  Bath salts with oatmeal neutralize the skin, and its pH soothes the skin.  Just looking for a thick luscious good ole bath?  Then try plain old school milk and honey with a splash of honeysuckle oil.
