There’s nothing better than that first day, fresh-out-of-the-salon hair. A beautiful blow-out makes for a great hair day, and a confident woman.

But, while none of us can afford to get our hair styled by professionals everyday, it is still possible to get that perfect first day look on your own! According to MSN, celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend and the experts at Marie Claire say there are six steps to achieve your best blowout.

Prep. Adding too much product will only leave your hair flat and greasy. Instead, when your hair is still wet, comb a nickel-size amount of heat-protectant gel or styling cream through your hair like Bumble and Bumble Styling Cream, $23 (winner of InStyle Best of Beauty 2010) or Sally Hershberger Style Primer, $13. Avoid using a lot of mousses and sprays around your hairline so you won’t get that gross product buildup.

Dry. You’ll want to get your hair about 75 percent dry just by running the blow dryer roughly through it, making sure to point the nozzle downward to prevent frizz and create shine.

Brush. A mix-bristle round brush like the Spornette Prix Brush $15, will help you get volume and a slight curl to the ends. Start by grabbing 3 to 4 inch sections around the front and top of your head, working the brush down and rolling it inward. With each piece that you finish, roll it into a curl and pin it to your head to separate the wet from the dry hair.

Spray. After your hair is dry, unpin the sections and then spritz your hand with a light shine spray like Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray $15, and run your fingers through your hair pushing upwards to add volume.

Fix. If your hair still lacks volume, try setting the top sections of your hair in one-inch hot rollers like Hot Tools, $20 for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Maintain. Make your blowout last another day! At night pull your hair up in a loose knot or braid before bed. In the morning, spray an aerosol dry shampoo like [Allure Best of Beauty 2010 Winner] Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo $18, on your roots and comb through your hair in order to absorb oil.

Enjoy your bouncy, beautiful blowout!
