Amy Adams has officially signed on to play the late Janis Joplin. Sources say the movie will follow Joplin’s early life with such projects as Big Brother and The Holding Company. To that, I have to say, was there unfortunately any other part of her early life to follow? One of the most powerful singer/songwriters of the 60s, Joplin died tragically at the age of 27.

Adams, whose career has skyrocketed since her debut in Drop Dead Gorgeous in 1999, has several other projects in the works, as well as what will be titled “Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can”, which is set for release in 2011.

Amy is much more feminine than Janis and is also nearly ten years older than Janis was at the time of her death. However, she has proven that she is ready to take on what is sure to be the most challenging role of her career. While she has played the typical pretty girl character in many lesser-known films, she has also worked on such memorable films as Doubt, Charlie Wilson’s War and Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can.

With a little research and…dressing down, Amy Adams is sure to knock this role out of the park and leave us all wondering, once again, why Janis Joplin had to go at such an early age.
