“The Internet is Over.”  -Prince, 2010

Prince. To echo your words from your 1980 hit, “Why you wanna treat me so bad?”

What did Prince do to me? Well, it’s more like what Prince is doing to us all. His latest album, “20Ten,” is set to debut this month. But His Royal Weirdness is not allowing iTunes or other digital distributors access to the release.

Why the digital dis by Prince? Well, according to multiple sources, Prince contends that the Internet is “outdated” and that iTunes wants the music upfront without paying him. The NERVE!!!

I am out of the closet with my obsession with The Purple One. But this time, Prince, you’re wrong.

Once upon a time, in a land far away, computers and downloads were non-existent and people actually HAD to drive  – GASP – their Pintos to record stores to buy music.  That was many, many years ago. Today, we boot up, log in, and download because – well – because it’s easy, and that’s just what we do. Prince was, is, and always WILL be entertainment royalty and is simply a musical genius. Back in the day, it seems that Prince’s music lived in the top 10.  These days, can anyone name ONE Prince hit from his last album “LOtUSFLOW3R?” (<—- That, folks, was a trick question).

The evolution of technology characteristic of this millennium, this decade, and this YEAR, directly and indirectly involves the Internet. Prince, you can’t resist the progression, and if you do, then the namesake of this year your album can’t be.

No need for a purple panic, though. Retailers like Best Buy will carry the album on their shelves. We committed fans are just gonna have to log out of our iTunes, sign out of YouTube, and physically “go out and get” the album at our nearest record stores.
