Positively Tried and Tested Tips for Tattoo Removal – Week 2

Posted on 31 Aug 2010 at 7:46pm

For those of you new to my blog (shame on you, ha!) click here to go to week 1 of my tried and tested tips for tattoo removal.

It’s week two in my endeavor, so here’s my update!

I think I was a little too excited for this to work huge miracles too fast!  I purchased the Wrecking Balm I recommended last week (even though the packaging reminds me of Ed Hardy…which isn’t a compliment…but I’ll give it a chance).  I still believe in the process, but I’m realizing that this may not be a weekly blog due to slower results.  You have to apply the Wrecking Balm every other day so I know I won’t see a difference for a while. Either way, here is my before picture:

In the box, you also receive a special exfoliating cream and a microdermic machine with two heads (but of course I lost one of the heads in first 48 hours, eeek!)  They also include a cream for after the treatment, along with a special concealer for if you really hate your tat! Here’s how to use it:

Step 1:  Clean the area.  If it’s a hairy area, best to shave it. Luckily for me, no shaving necessary.

Step 2:  Apply the exfoliating cream to the microderm and then put it on low (which is advised for the first few weeks).  Place it over your tattoo and make circular motions for 60 seconds. It doesn’t hurt, but it does become one of those annoying “ugh, this feels uncomfortable when will it stop…” kind of moments.   Wipe off the gel that is left.  I didn’t the first time and it got all over the back of my pants…not good!

I’ve done it three times this week and figure that with a little patience, it will be gone soon. I figure summer is nearly over, so by next summer when I’m bikini ready again I’ll be tattoo free.

As promised, here are two of my other tattoos which I LOVE and will not be getting rid of!

Award Season Mania

Posted on 31 Aug 2010 at 7:20pm

Tony’s, Emmy’s, Grammy’s, VMA’s, CMA’s… Award season gives us a lot to look forward to. From seeing all our favorite celebs dressed to impress all in the same place to finding out who takes home the trophy this year, these upcoming events are always entertaining to watch (even when we’re not invited.)

The 2010 Emmy Awards have been much anticipated this year especially with hit new shows such as Glee and Modern Family added to the competition.

Hollywood literally rolled out the red carpet for Sunday’s Emmy’s which was hosted by Late Night star and SNL alum Jimmy Fallon. I most enjoyed the star-studded opening number, the fabulous fashion and Glee to dominate this year!

Mark your calendars country music fans, because the 2010 CMA Awards will be  November 10, 2010 and back by popular demand the event will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley for the third year in a row. Special performances will include Kid Rock and Martina McBride.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will be bigger than ever this year!

On September 12, 2010 our favorite sassy comedian Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately) will host the VMA’s live from Los Angeles.

The star-studded list of performers include: Drake, Justin Beiber, Eminem, Kanye West, and  B.o.B.

The two major contenders battling out for the most ‘moon man’ awards this year will be the fierce duo: Lady Gaga and Beyonce. I’m going to go with GaGa this year!

Happy Awards Season!

Positively Strapless Secrets

Posted on 31 Aug 2010 at 7:08pm

Back-bearing dresses are beautiful and very much in style.

But they also pose the annoying task of going bra-less. And for some of us, that is simply not an option. The strapless bra is great for underneath shoulder-bearing dresses and tops, but when it comes to backless it is hard to find a bra that won’t show!

A red-carpet look is never complete if your ‘girls’ don’t look good too!  Whether you want an extra boost or support, these great new products work wonders to keep you perky and poised.

If you are already have a perky set, consider yourself lucky. Even so, you still might want to consider wearing nipple covers to make for a smoother silouette, but also to prevent anything from slipping out.  Beautiful You Breast Petals, will run you about $10 and are discreet under any outfit.

If you’re looking for a little boost in the chest department, you can still have your chicken cutlets! NuBra makes a sticky silicone gel bra, for about $40, that pads and pushes you up at the same time. However, from experience this bra works best on breasts smaller than a C cup, or else the result is not very flattering.

A larger rack requires a little support. Sassybax boasts that their Very Bare Backless bra, $78, is a favorite of stars such as Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez and works for sizes AA to DD! Their bras come in black or nude and have the look of a strapless bra, but with sticky tabs on the side to hold everything in place.

If you’re looking for a little lift, products like Bare Lifts and Liftys have been featured on television from informercials to the Today Show and promise to give you the look of a breast lift without the pain or the price of surgery. Essentially, it is ‘bra tape’ you use to adjust your breasts in place where you want them. Sound strange? Well, just check out the infomercial! They can cost from $10 to $20 and are transparent for an invisible look under a dress.

Now you can rock that backless look and stand confident (shoulders back, chest out!)  For the best prices, check out Amazon.com to order:

Positively Star Sightings: Scrubs Star Spotted at Beverly Center

Posted on 30 Aug 2010 at 3:12pm

Although we usually see him in scrubs, actor Donald Faison was spotted in jeans getting his shop on at the Beverly Center last week.

Beverly Center. 8500 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90048

Despite the gawkers and people staring outside of Coffee Bean, Faison kept his cool as he exited Bloomingdale’s and casually waved to fans as he strolled through the rest of the mall.

Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson Team Up to Bring MNG by Mango to J.C. Penney!

Posted on 30 Aug 2010 at 2:50pm

First the Olsen twins with Olsenboye, now it’s MNG by Mango coming to J.C. Penney with two of the hottest women in Hollywood (matter of fact, hottest in the world if you ask me) on their team.

Penelope Cruz (who is a big fan of Mango’s sexy and sultry Spanish fashions) also took part in the design process. Scarlett Johansson will also be featured in MNG by Mango’s ad campaign, as well as being the spokesmodel for the fashionable brand.

MNG by Mango will launch exclusively to be in 77 J.C. Penney stores this Fall, and will eventually launch in over 600 stores by late 2011.

With new MNG by Mango products flowing into J.C. Penney’s more than once a month, it will practically be as if Mango had their own store inside the uber-department!  That’s why the company has opted for the store-within-a-store concept similar to how Sephora is set up inside many of the same stores.

The line showcases a variety of styles, from edgy to sophisticated to girly to rocker!

Go to the J.C. Penney website to see if a store near you will carry MNG by Mango this fall.

Beauty is a Good Night’s Sleep!

Posted on 30 Aug 2010 at 1:58pm

Everyone knows the saying “I need my beauty sleep” and it is a fact that a good night’s sleep makes you feel energized and rested.  When you resonate that, you tend to look that way too. Your skin will look tight, refreshed and you have no dark circles.  So, here is my guide on how to get it.

I LOVE to sleep…it’s like a hobby! I also love to nap.  I’ve taught many of my friends how to nap, only because it irritates me when they stay with me and can’t have a 35 minute snooze while I snooze! I tend to sleep too much (well I did anyways) but now that I work four days a week and have a boyfriend that wakes up early, I’m not like a teenager who wants to waste my day away waking up at 2pm (even if I went to bed at 11 pm).

Yep, I call them marathon sleeps… 12 to 14 hours. But no matter how much I love snoozing, sleeping that long just makes me feel sluggish.  So for me, 8 to 10 hours of shut-eye is perfection. I start my nightly ritual with a nice bath (please refer to my blog CALL ME BATHOLOGIST for the best bathing tips!) or hot shower to relax myself and stimulate fatigue.

I also prep my room.  I don’t have a TV in my bedroom and I try not  to have any electronics nearby (sleeping with my cell by my head is bad enough!) I always make the bed in the morning – because when you get into it at night, it’s so nice!  After my mummy shouted at me once for not having my sheets ironed, I realized it’s true; ironed sheets make my bed so plush.  Lastly, I dim the lights so my brain gets time to shut down slowly.  I leave it bright enough to read without squinting.

I’m a lavender freak, so I flick a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow. It stimulates calmness, makes you relax and just smells divine.   Another tip for those of you who fly often — I take a lavender pillow with me. Lavender is a natural antibiotic, and pair that with a few drops of tea tree oil on the pillow and you will kill any airborne plane germs.

Next, I try and read for at least five minutes. It’s just a little before-bed-ritual that triggers my mind to forget all my stresses of the day and move onto reading and thinking about something else. At the moment, I’m on the third Stieg Larsson book and also every other day read a chapter or two of the sequel to The Secret called The Power. These are incredible books to check out:

Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest are available for great prices on Amazon.com.  Believe me, once you finish one you’ll want to go straight through to the other. The Power by Rhonda Byrne is also available on Amazon for approx $16 with delivery.

Now, note that I don’t usually need any help to get to sleep. But if I’m jetlagged and need a little helping hand, I go for a natural alternative like Melatonin which is available at most drugstores.

Another tool (which is helpful for people who need to fall asleep with the TV on) I recommend is white noise. Download it to your laptop, your ipod or buy and alarm that has it as an option — it REALLY works! FYI, this truthfully bugs me so much I once dumped a guy who did that because my brain wasn’t resting! But if you need it to fall asleep, white noise is great – plus it won’t drive up your electricity bill or burn out your tv monitor.

Now for my secret secret weapon!  I will get fan mail for this one. Ready?  Okay, here goes:  I use an eye mask. Now I don’t usually like sleeping with things on my face, but this is different. It’s called a Mindfold.

It’s a total blackout eye mask which doesn’t let any light in. You can wear it in daylight, and it will be night time in your eyes.  It doesn’t press directly against your eyes — it has a foam border that cups your upper face and after a few wears it molds right to you.

It really is genius!  The darkness makes your REM deeper, longer and just so good.  It’s also amazing for people who need to work nights and sleep days, as you can sleep in a very bright room like its 2 am! When I fly cross-Atlantic during day crossing timezones, I go to bed at my normal time, take a melatonin, put the Mindfold on and pretend its night time.

I land at my destination rested and take a few days off jetlag . For more information on the Mindfold and to buy one , please visit www.mindfold.com Price is only $19.50 including shipping. You can also purchase it from Amazon below, for a rock-bottom low price of 11 bucks new!

Have a great nights sleep ladies and gents!  And be sure to check out my other beauty blogs right here at Positively Celebrity!

Elin Breaks Her Silence

Posted on 26 Aug 2010 at 1:51pm

Now that Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods’ divorce is final, Elin is finally speaking out, in what she calls her first, and last interview. The 30-year-old former model tells People Magazine, “I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children.”

When news of Tiger Woods’ multiple affairs broke last November, Elin says she was completely blindsided by the whole ordeal. Amongst the range of emotions that have smacked the golf pro’s ex-wife in the face, she highlights her embarrassment, telling the magazine, “I felt stupid as more things were revealed — how could I not have known anything? The word ‘betrayal’ isn’t strong enough. I felt embarrassed for having been so deceived. I felt betrayed by many people around me. …”

Although the past nine months have been nothing short of an emotional roller coaster, Elin says she feels stronger than ever. “I have confidence in my beliefs, my decisions and myself.”

After Wednesday’s pro-am round at Barclay’s Tournament in New Jersey, Tiger took a few minutes to reflect on his own feelings regarding the divorce. He told the press, “I wish her the best in everything. You know, it’s a sad time in our lives. And we’re looking forward to…how we can help our kids the best way we possibly can. And that’s the most important thing.”

Elin is currently studying psychology at Rollins College. She says her focus now is taking care of her two children, getting her degree, and giving herself time to heal. Although she will reportedly get a settlement of up to 100 million dollars, she responds “Money can’t buy me happiness, or put my family back together.”

Levi for Mayor?

Posted on 26 Aug 2010 at 1:43pm

The father of Sarah Palin’s grandson has filed papers to run for office in his hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. Levi announced earlier this month that he was shopping a reality show titled, Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office.

The 20-year-old is being supported by Stone and Company Entertainment, which has produced shows like “NYC Prep” and “1000 Places to See Before You Die.” According to the producers, the show “will chronicle a ‘no-holds-barred’ period in Levi’s tumultuous life; co-raising his son Tripp, looking for love, and taking care of business for his fellow Wasillans.” Let’s hope it will also include him getting his high school diploma!

Levi is scheduled to appear on CBS’ ‘The Early Show’ on Friday to discuss his future plans. The new mayor seat will be up for election in 2012.

Wasilla is where Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, got her political start.

Beauty Trend Alert: The Side Ponytail is Back!

Posted on 26 Aug 2010 at 1:34pm

You read that right! The side ponytail is back in a big way! But don’t worry, it’s not the big “scrunchied” faux pas ponytail from the 80s..today’s side pony is low, subtle and sooo sexy! The look is all over the red carpet lately and I’m loving it!!

The new trend reflects the laid-back looks we’ve been seeing all summer.  It’s super simple to accomplish and works for a casual daytime look, plus it sizzles on the red carpet.

Check out the new way to wear this beauty blast from the past from these hot celebs!

NICOLE RICHIE at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards on June 8.

I LOVE the way Nicole Richie wore her side ponytail. It’s low and sleek, yet she amps up the volume on top for a more dramatic effect!

LAUREN CONRAD promotes her new book ‘Sweet Little Lies’ at Barnes and Noble Tribeca.

Lauren wears it smooth with very loose waves and a deep side part. So pretty!

JULIA ROBERTS at Eat Pray Love Press conference in Tokyo Aug. 18.

Always adorable Julia Roberts got creative and parted her hair toward the opposite direction of her pony for a more playful look. So cute!

AMERICA FERRERA at the premiere of The Dry Land in Los Angeles.

America looks polished and sophiscated with her curled side tail and mega volume on top. Gorgeous!

CARMEN ELECTRA in Hollywood, CA

Carmen looks sweet with a tight, slightly higher ponytail and lots of waves.

PARIS HILTON out and about on August 24.

Paris looks super cute with hers casually pulled back and to the side for a care-free daytime look. Effortless!

Whether you’re headed back to school or going out for a night on the town, this look is hot for every occasion – and can be done in just a few minutes! LOVE it!!

Peace, Love and Sexiness
