Beauty is a Good Night’s Sleep!2 Comments

Everyone knows the saying “I need my beauty sleep” and it is a fact that a good night’s sleep makes you feel energized and rested.  When you resonate that, you tend to look that way too. Your skin will look tight, refreshed and you have no dark circles.  So, here is my guide on how to get it.

I LOVE to sleep…it’s like a hobby! I also love to nap.  I’ve taught many of my friends how to nap, only because it irritates me when they stay with me and can’t have a 35 minute snooze while I snooze! I tend to sleep too much (well I did anyways) but now that I work four days a week and have a boyfriend that wakes up early, I’m not like a teenager who wants to waste my day away waking up at 2pm (even if I went to bed at 11 pm).

Yep, I call them marathon sleeps… 12 to 14 hours. But no matter how much I love snoozing, sleeping that long just makes me feel sluggish.  So for me, 8 to 10 hours of shut-eye is perfection. I start my nightly ritual with a nice bath (please refer to my blog CALL ME BATHOLOGIST for the best bathing tips!) or hot shower to relax myself and stimulate fatigue.

I also prep my room.  I don’t have a TV in my bedroom and I try not  to have any electronics nearby (sleeping with my cell by my head is bad enough!) I always make the bed in the morning – because when you get into it at night, it’s so nice!  After my mummy shouted at me once for not having my sheets ironed, I realized it’s true; ironed sheets make my bed so plush.  Lastly, I dim the lights so my brain gets time to shut down slowly.  I leave it bright enough to read without squinting. I’m a lavender freak, so I flick a few drops of lavender oil on my pillow. It stimulates calmness, makes you relax and just smells divine.   Another tip for those of you who fly often — I take a lavender pillow with me. Lavender is a natural antibiotic, and pair that with a few drops of tea tree oil on the pillow and you will kill any airborne plane germs.

Next, I try and read for at least five minutes. It’s just a little before-bed-ritual that triggers my mind to forget all my stresses of the day and move onto reading and thinking about something else. At the moment, I’m on the third Stieg Larsson book and also every other day read a chapter or two of the sequel to The Secret called The Power. These are incredible books to check out:

Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest are available for great prices on Amazon.com.  Believe me, once you finish one you’ll want to go straight through to the other. The Power by Rhonda Byrne is also available on Amazon for approx $16 with delivery.

Now, note that I don’t usually need any help to get to sleep. But if I’m jetlagged and need a little helping hand, I go for a natural alternative like Melatonin which is available at most drugstores.

Another tool (which is helpful for people who need to fall asleep with the TV on) I recommend is white noise. Download it to your laptop, your ipod or buy and alarm that has it as an option — it REALLY works! FYI, this truthfully bugs me so much I once dumped a guy who did that because my brain wasn’t resting! But if you need it to fall asleep, white noise is great – plus it won’t drive up your electricity bill or burn out your tv monitor.

Now for my secret secret weapon!  I will get fan mail for this one. Ready?  Okay, here goes:  I use an eye mask. Now I don’t usually like sleeping with things on my face, but this is different. It’s called a Mindfold.

It’s a total blackout eye mask which doesn’t let any light in. You can wear it in daylight, and it will be night time in your eyes.  It doesn’t press directly against your eyes — it has a foam border that cups your upper face and after a few wears it molds right to you.

It really is genius!  The darkness makes your REM deeper, longer and just so good.  It’s also amazing for people who need to work nights and sleep days, as you can sleep in a very bright room like its 2 am! When I fly cross-Atlantic during day crossing timezones, I go to bed at my normal time, take a melatonin, put the Mindfold on and pretend its night time.

I land at my destination rested and take a few days off jetlag . For more information on the Mindfold and to buy one , please visit www.mindfold.com Price is only $19.50 including shipping. You can also purchase it from Amazon below, for a rock-bottom low price of 11 bucks new!

Have a great nights sleep ladies and gents!  And be sure to check out my other beauty blogs right here at Positively Celebrity!
