Kate Middleton has found her Prince Charming…or rather, her Prince William! After eight years of on and off dating, the couple will soon exchange vows. The Clarence House – the home of Prince Charles – released an official statement spreading the great news. “The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.”
Prince William proposed to Kate in October, while vacationing in Kenya. While Kate stayed mum on specific details of their special moment, she described the proposal as “very romantic…and very personal to Africa.”
Wills gave his future bride his late mother Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring. Prince William told the press, “It was my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement of the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Though many say this engagement was a long time coming, Kate admits the thought of becoming Royalty is a bit overwhelming. “It’s quite a daunting prospect, but hopefully I’ll take it in my stride,” she said. “William’s a great teacher, so he’ll be up to help me…I really look forward to it, and look forward to spending my time with William.”
No surprise that Kate’s parents are over the moon on the announcement of their eldest child’s engagement. Michael Middleton, who gave Wills his permission to take Kate’s hand, told the press, “They make a lovely couple. They’re great fun to be with and we’ve had a lot of laughs together. We wish them every happiness for the future.”
The future bride and groom, both 28-years-old, met as students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Although no official wedding date has been set, sources have hinted that July 8 is a favorable date. July 29 is a possibility too, as it will mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles. It is believed that the wedding will take place either at St. Paul’s Cathedral – where Diana and Charles wed in 1981 – or Westminster Abbey – where Princess Diana’s funeral was held in 1997.
Wherever it is, it will no doubt be the wedding of the century!
