Unleash the Minx in You and Give Minx Nails a Try!4 Comments

If I were to describe something about me, I would say I’m  always the one that hates getting my nails done. I’ve even said this before in one of my previous blog postings — I just find it so hard sitting in a nail salon that smells of acrylic poison.

You can’t text or read when your hands are tied up, and then to add insult to injury, you have to wait ages for it to dry without smudging — hell no!  So when my sister got Minx nails in London and explained to me that it’s a heat transfer with no drying time, I thought “Thank you, Universe for this gift”!  I then saw this uber-cool stylist I work with, Karla Welsh, rocking the gold nails so I decided to give Minx a try.

So what is a minx, anyway? The creator says “A Minx is a sexy, confident, naughty but fun individual who lives every day like it is a big, ripe juicy apple ready to be bitten. We’ve channeled this cool factor into Minx, a new and glamorous way that lets women (and men!) extend fashion to their very fingertips.” Well said!

Funny enough, my sister Coralie and Karla both had the gold Minx nails.  It totally looks like their fingers have been dipped in solid gold. It reminds me of when I was a teen, my mummy (who owns a jewelry store in London www.manguette.com) bought me and my sis 24 carat gold stick-on nails. I always wondered where mine went after all these years, and how cool would it be if I rocked that look again.  So hello, Minx nails!

I went to a salon called Extremedys Hand and Foot Spa on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles that I had heard great things about.   The woman who did my nails – Naja –  was actually the first nail technician to be taught by the Minx creators.  She’s known as the “Minx Master”. Pretty cool, huh.  Numero uno, baby!  But only the best for me. She has a rolodex full of celebrity clients including the Fergilicous Fergie.

A ton of other celebrities like Beyonce, Blake Lively, Rihanna and Heidi Montag have all been rocking this look.

The first thing I noticed was how quiet, relaxing and calm the salon was, even though it was a viciously hectic Friday. To top it off, they had yummy mint tea at hand. Naja really gave me a great manicure, during which I was free to use my other hand drinking tea (and texting, of course).  Our conversation was great and Naja really knew about the product, which is important to me.

After choosing gold on all my fingers and leopard print on my thumbs, Naja transformed my nails in near to no time. So easy-peezy!  Check out the finished looks below.

Let me tell you something…compliments will get you everywhere!  Naja told me I had beautiful nails, and coming from a nail technician that definitely made me blush. I even started wondering if I should actually consider nail modeling!  I left there with amazing gold nails, relaxed and excited to show my nails off front row at The Justin Timberlake and Friends charity concert in Las Vegas (woo-hoo!).

Naja did point out however, that as amazing as my nails were, they were also a little oily…and therefore the heat transfer may only last for 3 to 5 days. I think that was more of a disclaimer so I wouldn’t get disappointed, but boy was she wrong!  It lasted a full 18 days without going funky — and that’s 18 days of people stopping me to tell me how much they love my nails, and me smiling because of it. 18 days of not having to worry about finding time to get my nails done after a chip or a polish change. 18 days of nail peace of mind!  I love MINX and this is definitely my new “thing”.

The only downside is the price. A Minx manicure costs $55 at  Naja’s amazing salon.  It’s totally worth it, but I’m used to the $10 manicure with a $2 tip…so it takes some budgeting to squeeze this luxury in.  I will definitely do it again — I think I’m going to try my toes next, as Naja said they can last up to a month. For a Minx pedicure it’s anywhere from $60 – $80 (for the Minx application only)…but so worth doing the feet at least once a month. Check out their website at www.Extremedys2012.com or call 323.848.8094 to book your appointment.

If you’re not local to LA or going there anytime soon, you of course can always google “Minx Nails” to find salons in your area.
