After 25 seasons, Oprah still knows how to keep her audience on the edge of their seats. On Monday, the talk show host dropped a shocking bombshell…OPRAH HAS A SISTER!!!

Oprah learned she has a half sister named Patricia who was given up for adoption after birth in 1963. Patricia, who currently lives in Milwaukee, is the daughter of Oprah’s mother, Vernita Lee, but not her father, Vernon Winfrey. Oprah told her audience she had just been informed of the news in November, which she says, “literally shook me to my core”.
Patricia’s story unraveled shortly after the big announcement. She lived in foster homes until age 7, and later discovered that she had three other siblings. Patricia then went through an adoption agency on the hunt to find her birth mother. After many attempts, she later found out that her birth mom did not want to meet her.

After her second rejection, Patricia happened to be watching an interview of Oprah’s mom, Vernita, on TV. Vernita spoke about her two deceased children, Jeffrey and Pat. Vernita’s details matched those of Patricia’s adoption records, and Patricia realized she could possibly be Oprah’s sister.
Since that moment in 2007, Patricia’s has been determined to contact Oprah and her family. At one point, she found a niece of Oprah’s and took a DNA test, which came back positive. Finally, after three years Patricia has ended her search.
Upon hearing the news, Oprah and her longtime partner, Stedman Graham, drove to Milwaukee to spend Thanksgiving with Patricia and her family.
Oprah got teary eyed when she told her audience her most touching part of this shocking news. “Since I have been a person known in the public, there have been few times when I’ve been anywhere and not been sold out… There have been few times when you can bring anybody new into your life and not have that person in some way betray you, or use you, or take advantage of you. What is so extraordinary about Patricia… is that they have known this secret since 2007…She had tried, and tried, and tried again…She never once thought to go to the press. She never once thought to sell this story.”

On Tuesday, Oprah told Gayle’s King’s radio show that she looks forward to building a relationship with her new found baby sis. She says, “Having been burned a lot of times in other relationships, I’m the kind of person that would like to take it slow, build a relationship upon mutual respect and understanding…I am open to having a sisterly relationship, but such things aren’t automatic and they take time.”
