Gleeks rejoice! The New Directions are headed to the big screen this summer!

20th Century Fox has just announced that “GLEE LIVE! 3D!” will be released on August 12 for a two week run, with footage from the ”Glee Live! In Concert!” tour.

Most of the lead characters, including new additions Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine) will appear, but a few mainstays will be absent!

Mr. Schu (gasp!) and Sue Sylvester! Seems like Matthew Morrison (a.k.a. Mr. Schuster) will be a little too busy promoting his solo album to star in a movie.

Popeater quotes Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy about the upcoming film:
“There were only so many cities we could get to,” Murphy said in a statement. “We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity. Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we’ll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three dimensional glory. We promise every passionate Gleek a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles.”
Sounds like fun to me! And considering the popularity of concert movies like Justin Beiber’s “Never Say Never,” I think we have another hit on our hands.
