“Super 8″ will no doubt be one of the highest-grossing and most popular movies this summer, with great award-season potential! Read on for why!

“Super 8″ is a return to the classic filmmaking I grew up with; great story, great drama and action, and great directing. It’s not about recognizable “stars” who have just left rehab; it’s one carefully angled shot of an actor that tells you everything, without them speaking a word. Plus, the movie was made by these two guys…what are their names again? Oh yeah, J.J. Abrams and Stephen Spielberg!!!

“Super 8″ follows the friendship of five teenage boys in 1979 who set out to make a zombie movie to submit to a local movie festival. They witness a train crash while filming, and things get crazy from there. They are warned not to tell anyone what they saw, or harm will come to them and their families. Disappearances of humans, dogs and electronics, not to mention a national military presence in the town has everyone on edge.

The movie particularly follows one boy, character Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney), as he tries to connect with his distant father and his crush, Alice. Joe’s father Jackson (Kyle Chandler) is the town’s deputy police officer, and while always running to work to save someone, he also forbids his son to see Alice in a very ’Romeo and Juliet’ way. Alice is played to perfection by Elle Fanning, little sister of starlet Dakota Fanning.

The best part about the movie is that none of the actors are “stars.” They are mostly unknowns, and let me tell you, these kids can act! I don’t want to give away any more of the story so that you can enjoy it for yourself, but I can tell you that I haven’t seen this good of filmmaking in a loooooong time.

If you want to see a great science fiction fantasy, plus a great action movie, plus a great story acted wonderfully by some unknowns, go see “Super 8″! (I know I know, hard to believe it’s all in one movie!)
