On a recent trip to the Dutch Antilles, I fell in love with a real gem! The unusual ring by Effy winked at me as I walked past the store. Mr. Effy Hematian, a jewelry designer with over three decades of experience, opened the first Effy Jewelers store on the island of Aruba and is one of the largest and fastest growing fine-jewelry retailers in the world.

But like most holiday romances I got on the plane home and ‘he’ did not! The memory of the sultry panther creeping stealthily along my tanned digit still tickles me. This wildly innovative ring from the Effy Signature Collection features round-cut black and white diamond (1.50 Carats) with emerald accents set in 14k rose gold, and I have to admit I miss ‘him’.

Each and every bijou tells a story and I am always willing to listen. As with the odd sock, I have sadly misplaced an earring along the way and there is nothing more melancholy than a single earring. I am passionate about gems; you will often find me in hand me downs, charity shop or high street clothes but I like to be dripping in jewelry. I see myself as a semi-precious collector.

The ‘lost’ ring inspired me to write about the personal ornaments I have collected on my travels, so I will be bringing you a guide to my favorite jewelry stores around the world — starting with Manguette in London.
