Q&A: 30 Seconds To Mars

Kristen Aldridge: Nice to meet you -

Jared Leto: You have a wonderful smile.

Kristen Aldridge: Thank you, you’re too sweet! How does it feel to be honored with a “Breakthrough of the Year” award for your band, 30 Seconds to Mars?

Jared Leto: It’s a very nice honor, it’s a very wonderful thing to get the acknowledgement. I feel like this year has been reward enough so to get an award is icing on the cake, you know? It’s really fantastic, I’m kind of a representative of the band and I’m getting the award for the success of the band, and it’s been an exemplary year. We’re very proud and siked to be here.

Kristen Aldridge: Well, it really has been an amazing year for you -

Jared Leto: (laughing) Don’t smile at me like that!

Kristen Aldridge: (laughing) Now I’m blushing!

Jared Leto: I’m sorry, couldn’t help it…I’ll stop -

Kristen Aldridge: So what’s been the best moment for you guys this year?

Jared Leto: I would say the incredible journey. The shows that we played, the tours that we’ve had, getting an MTV award this year was a really special moment. It’s been incredible and we’re really proud. We just did a tour that was not only sold out across the country but it was an environmentally sound tour – it was a tour which was a Green Tour, so to do things like that are very fulfilling and rewarding, so very cool.

Kristen Aldridge: You guys have a tour coming up?

Jared Leto: Yes, we’re going to co-headline a tour called “Taste of Chaos”. Then we’re going to go to Europe in January, and we’re also going to go to the Sundance Film Festival to play a show.

Kristen Aldridge: And you’ve got a film premiering there called “Chapter 27”. How would you describe playing the role of Mark David Chapman?

Jared Leto: It was challenging, intense, devastating, heartbreaking, but important to explore the failure of humanity and it was a life changing experience for sure. I gained 100 pounds to play the role, but 8 days after we were done shooting I was back on the road with 30 Seconds to Mars. It was probably the best diet you can ever imagine – the tour diet. I’ll be doing an infomercial soon!

Kristen Aldridge: (laughing) Well, thank you so much. Have a great time tonight!
