Golden Globes: Who Will Win?
“Slumdog Millionaire” vs. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button?” Brad Pitt vs. Mickey Rourke? “Mad Men” vs. “True Blood?”
Who will win?
We’ll find out when the 66th annual Golden Globes air Sunday on NBC at 8/7 c, but in the meantime here’s Positively Celebrity’s picks for who will be seeing gold.
Best Motion Picture - Drama

* The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
While “Slumdog Millionaire” is equally if not more deserving, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is the most popular and beloved movie right now.
Best Actor in a Drama
Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
* Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Rourke will most likely win at the Oscars, but Pitt will win at the Globes because he is more popular and mainstream.
Best Actress in a Drama

* Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie, Changeling
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Kristin Scott-Thomas, I’ve Loved You So Long
Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road
Fresh off her Critics Choice Award Thursday night, Hathaway will go on to win the Golden Globe as well.
Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Burn After Reading
Happy-Go-Lucky
In Bruges
Mamma Mia!
* Vicky Cristina Barcelona
This one goes to the beloved Woody Allen’s film. The Coens (fresh off last year’s “No Country for Old Men” accolades) won’t win again for “Burn After Reading,” not enough people saw “Happy-Go-Lucky” or “In Bruges,” and many didn’t take “Mamma Mia!” too seriously.
Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy
Javier Bardem, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Colin Farrell, In Bruges
James Franco, Pineapple Express
Brendan Gleeson, In Bruges

* Dustin Hoffman, Last Chance Harvey
If Bardem didn’t just win last year for “No Country for Old Men,” I’d say he’d win, so this year it could be a toss-up between Farrell and Hoffman. Given Hoffman’s popularity and long, great career, I’ll predict him.
Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy
Rebecca Hall, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
* Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky
Frances McDormand, Burn After Reading
Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia!
Emma Thompson, Last Chance Harvey
Hawkins is the critical favorite who has the best chance of all these ladies to be nominated for an Oscar. Yet, look out for Streep, whose popularity and work in “Doubt” could help score her a win.
Best TV Series- Drama
Dexter
House
In Treatment

* Mad Men
True Blood
“Mad Men” did win last year, but its second season was even better than its first. Plus, the show didn’t have much of a chance to celebrate last year because a boring press conference took the place of an actual show due to the writer’s strike.
Best TV Series- Comedy
* 30 Rock
Californication
Entourage
The Office
Weeds
“30 Rock” is the best comedy on TV right now, and it is yet to win a Golden Globe for best comedy.
Best Actor in a TV Drama
Gabriel Byrne, In Treatment
Michael C. Hall, Dexter

* Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, The Tudors
This could be a toss-up between Hamm and Hall, but I’ll give the edge to Hamm due to “Mad Men’s” enormous popularity.
Best Actress in a TV Drama
Sally Field, Brothers and Sisters
Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: SVU
* January Jones, Mad Men
Anna Paquin, True Blood
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
Field, Hargitay, and Sedgwick are starting to become clichés in this category, and Paquin’s “True Blood” isn’t well-known. Plus, Jones really had a chance to flex her acting muscles on this season of “Mad Men.”
Best Actor in a TV Musical or Comedy

* Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Kevin Connolly, Entourage
David Duchovny, Californication
Tony Shaloub, Monk
Baldwin won two years ago in this category, but, again, no comedy is better than “30 Rock” right now. Plus, Baldwin’s great lines and even greater delivery of them really makes the show.
Best Actress in a TV Musical or Comedy
* Christina Applegate, Samantha Who?
America Ferrera, Ugly Betty
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Debra Messing, The Starter Wife
Mary-Louise Parker, Weeds
Fey has been on a complete winning streak this last year with all her accolades and praise. Either she could continue her streak or there could be a backlash. I’ll go with the latter and give the edge to Applegate for her fresh, funny performance. Plus, she’s yet to win an Emmy or a Golden Globe for “Samantha Who?” and it’s about time.
1 Comment »Golden Globe Nominations Are Announced
The Hollywood Foreign Press recently announced the nominees for this year’s Golden Globes airing on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. on NBC. This year’s Golden Globes has special significance because last year the winners were announced during a lackluster press conference due to the writer’s strike.
Usually, the Golden Globe nominations and winners are a good indicator of who and what will be nominated for the Academy Awards. So if you haven’t seen these movies or TV shows yet, now is your time to start checking them out.

No Comments »Emmy Hair and Make-up Must Haves
I already gave you the low down on all the great style at the Emmy’s. Now let’s talk hair and make-up.
America Ferrera channels her retro beauty with side pinned curls and bright red lips. The look pairs nicely with her dress and compliments her skin tone.

Cable hit, “Mad Men” made heads turn with the number of Emmy nominations. But, its starlet, January Jones glowed with Ruby lips, pink cheeks and porcelain skin. Her sleek blonde hair was up and accented with Kwiat diamonds.

No medical mystery here. Another “House” star, Jennifer Morrison turned heads. The actress is golden. Her hair is delicately pulled back, accents her icy eyes, rosy cheeks, and light pink lips.

Twice the compliment. Debra Messing adds to her gorgeous look with her signature sizzling, red locks, softly curled and pieced with waves. It makes her green eyes stand out and, ladies, Debra proves there is no such thing as too much mascara.

43-year-old, Kyra Sedgwick proves age is just a number. Sedgwick looks hot in a white, L’Wren Scott dress, showing off her great legs. But, her sculpted curls and smoky eyes with rosy lips are what finish the look.

Welcome Back, Ugly Betty!

I am trying to catch myself up with Ugly Betty in time for the season 3 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 25. Here’s why I like the show:
Its New York City setting riding the subway between Queens and Manhattan mingles cultures and classes, just like real life.
Ugly Betty is set in the mod office of Mode Magazine. It’s filled with heroes and villains dressed in fashion extremes yet whose characters’ personalities deal in shades of grey where the good guys often fail us and the bad guys hint at humanity once in a while to keep us guessing. Plus, it’s funny.
As a public service I will offer some words of wisdom to a few of the characters from the show, Ugly Betty, starting with…
Betty’s suitor, Henry:
Somehow, miraculously and irresponsibly, you got your Baby Mama Charlie pregnant, so deal and leave Betty alone.
Now to Wilhelmina’s sneaky assistant, Marc:
I love how you cut to the chase! “Blah blah blah. Tragedy.”
Go easy on those chocolatini’s when you aren’t be sure of who is pouring.
Be careful; you are just too pretty for prison.
And finally, Betty:
Don’t buy Louis Vuitton knockoffs from a blanket on Sixth Avenue. Not only is it unethical, those tacky fakes fool no one.
Leave the suitcase, take the cupcakes.
Not everyone who makes sandwiches is a lunk.
Keep the bling on your smile, not on your cell – got to hear those messages!
Plug the right guy into your fantasy (hint: it might not be either Henry or Gio!).
Open your eyes. Fireworks can come from unexpected places.
Now here are a few things I have learned from Ugly Betty:
Betty isn’t ugly.
Pink mums are beautiful.
You must trust - but be careful whom you trust.
Birthdays are special.
Life experience counts for something.
There will never be a day when I don’t need cupcakes.
You’re never too old for piñatas.
Reality ain’t perfect but it’s pretty good.
Cab close-ups make cool scene transitions.
I can’t wait for the new season of Ugly Betty, especially since the real New York City will now be the backdrop. That’s as real as it gets for this New Yorker.

Say what you will about celebrities.
They’re getting arrested, or about to get arrested, or in the nude on YouTube, or throwing a tantrum.
But when the call goes out for help, you can count on [most of] them to show their support. As is the case with the ever-growing fundraiser, “Stand Up to Cancer,” to be shown simultaneously on ABC, CBS, NBC and E! Entertainment on September 5.

The roster includes a who’s who among top-ranking celebrities, with showings expected by Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, Halle Berry, Kate Bosworth, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kirsten Dunst, Melissa Etheridge, America Ferrera, Scarlett Johansson, Rob Lowe, Meryl Streep and Charlize Theron…and there are bound to be more last-minute commitments so stay tuned.

Jennifer Lopez is back at work after the recent birth of her twins, executive producing the pilot for a new fall TV series for ABC based on her 2002 movie hit, “Maid in Manhattan”.

The hour-long comedy/drama will focus on the relationships between the maid and her fellow hotel workers, family and friends, rather than any romances with the ritzy hotel guests like the movie version.
Wonder if the star of “Maid in Manhattan” will ever run into the other Latina actress starring in a New York City-based ABC-TV series - America Ferrera from “Ugly Betty”?
