Get Your Wedges for Summer

Posted on 02 May 2011 at 1:10pm

Spring and summer are all about wedges! From Vanessa Hudgens, Jennifer Aniston to Michelle Williams, they’ve all been spotted wearing their wedges with bootcut denim, skirts, shorts and even on the red carpet.

Try wearing a pair of wedges with your new summer dresses or switch it up and match your wedges with a pair of casual denim jeans and a blouse to dress up your laid-back style.

If you’re looking for a great pair of wedges at a reasonable price, (but are still high-end designer shoes and made well) try Michael Kors.

Some of my favorite Michael Kors wedges:

All you need are a pair of black and neutral color wedges…and you’ll be set for that warm weather! Happy shopping!

Bradley Cooper; The Next Crow?

Posted on 18 Apr 2011 at 8:37pm

Buzz in Hollywood this week included news that Bradley Cooper was reconnecting with Jennifer Aniston, and is in talks to star in a remake of The Crow!

Bradley has definitely cemented himself as a leading man, and is in theaters now as the star of Limitless, a fast-paced thriller that opened at number one at the box office.

Next up is The Hangover 2, in which he will no-doubt stand apart from the rest of the cast as the hunky Phil.

Cooper has done action in the past in the film version of The A-Team, but he’s not the first person I think of when it comes to action movies.  That said, I’m all for seeing him get in crazy-good shape and kicking butt on the big screen!  Personally, I’m a little worried about reviving this franchise; original star Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) was killed when a prop gun mis-fired on set.

So what do you think?  Is Bradley Cooper worthy to take on the action-packed leading role in The Crow remake?

Positively Perfect Must-Have Sequin Mini-Dresses!

Posted on 20 Sep 2010 at 9:42pm

Holiday season is right around the corner, but don’t let it sneak up on you with nothing to wear! This season’s must-have holiday wardrobe is a long-sleeved sequin mini-dress. The sequin mini was hot last Fall, and this season it’s even hotter.

Fall fashions are arriving daily into most stores (I know…we wish Summer would stay a bit longer), so believe it or not — it’s time to get ahead of the trend and keep an eye out for that perfect holiday dress.  If you’re anything like me, you tend to not want to wear the same thing twice…but this dress is so versatile and fun, you’ll want to wear it as much as you can!

Look at how gorgeous Zoe Saldana and Heidi Klum look in their mini-sparklers!

There are so many reasons to love the sequin mini this holiday season!

Sexy and chic…

Effortless like Jennifer Aniston…

Bold and simply…

Perfect!

Fitted or loose, show off those great gams like Jessica Alba!

And if you opt for a loose fit you can eat as much dessert as you want (which around the Holidays, is definitely a good idea!)  If the sequins are too bold for you, then simply forget the sequins and go for a effortless long-sleeved mini like Kate Moss and Emmanuelle Chriqui:

Chloe Sevigny and Alexis Bledel know how to rock the look, too!

Thanks to these fabulous celebrities, I am now officially obsessed with the long-sleeved sequined mini dress. Happy Shopping, ladies!

The Switch Premiere Hits Hollywood

Posted on 19 Aug 2010 at 10:27am

There was no bait-n-switch on August 16 at Arclight Cinemas. The celebrities that turned up at the new comedy’s premiere on Monday were the real deal!

“The most unexpected comedy ever conceived”, The Switch follows a 40-year-old woman (Jennifer Aniston) who turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Jason Bateman, Juliette Lewis and Jason Patrick also star in this funny new movie that hits theaters Friday.

O’Reilly vs. Aniston

Posted on 11 Aug 2010 at 8:40pm

While promoting her new movie, The Switch, Jennifer Aniston commented that in today’s society, women don’t need men in order to start their own family. Jen told reporters, “Women are realizing more and more that you don’t have to settle, they don’t have to fiddle with a man to have that child…They are realizing if it’s that time in their life and they want this part they can do it with or without that.”

In The Switch, Jen plays a single woman who decides to become a mom through artificial insemination.

Apparently, this did not sit well with Bill O’Reilly, who slammed Aniston’s comments on his show, The O’Reilly Factor. Bill accused the actress of diminishing the role of a dad, and argued that her comments are “destructive to our society” because they send “a message out to 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds that, ‘Hey you don’t need a guy. You don’t need a dad.” Bill added that the role of a dad is “under-emphasized” these days, and that men get “hosed all day long in the parental arena”.

The show’s guest, FOX News Analyst Margaret Hoover, agreed that Aniston was “glamorizing single parenthood”, but also defended her, pointing out that Jen’s comments were simply making a point in the context of her new movie.

What do you think? Is O’Reilly blowing Aniston’s comments out of context or does he make a good point?

The Working Girl’s Guide to Getting Fit!

Posted on 29 Jul 2010 at 5:45pm

We all see the celebrities with their perfect bodies working the red carpets and gracing the covers of every magazine. We know that no matter what they say, they have more time to workout. They probably have a personal trainer, and can afford expensive gym memberships and beauty treatments to make them look fabulous all the time. It’s part of their job.

Carrie Underwood with Personal Trainer

Fergie is always in great shape!

Well for the rest of us, just getting one hour of fitness in a week is tough! If you work full-time, you’re exhausted when you get home. Any energy you do have is most likely spent doing household chores, making dinner, or perhaps taking your kids to soccer practice. And when you do have an hour of free time, catching up on your favorite TV shows definitely sounds more fun than hitting the gym.

So, how can a working girl (or guy) get fit without spending hours in a gym? EASY! We need to look at getting in shape in a whole different way!

There’s no rule that says you have to work out for long periods of time to get in shape! Read that again ladies!  That’s right. Fitting in several 5-10 minute workouts are just as beneficial as long periods of exercise…and you don’t even need a gym!! YAY!

The 5-5-5 Plan:

Start with a goal to do just five, 5-minute-workouts-a-day, 5 days-a-week…that amounts to an extra two hours of working out! (a lot more than most people get!)  Just make sure that those five minutes count, push yourself hard and you’ll feel so great!

So, what to do during those five minutes? Anything you like! Just get your heart-rate up! Make a list of exercises you’d like to do and then when you have five minutes, start checking them off your list!

Here are some great workout ideas for the girl-on-the-go:

  • If you’re at work, go hit the stairs whenever you can, or run around the building… you’ll be back so fast no one will even know you left!
  • If you work in a cubicle, bring one dumbbell to work and do curls while on the phone, making sure to alternate arms.
  • Make it fun! Play a Game with your friends via text. Send a quick message to let them know you just did your second 5-minute set! Having a little competition from your friends is always motivating!
  • When you’re home, put on your favorite music and dance up a storm!
  • For toning: Get more bang for your buck by doing exercises that work more than one muscle group! My faves:  lunges and squats are great for lower body, They work your quads, hamstrings and of course the BOOTY!  Pushups work the entire upper body, as well as your abs – awesome!
  • When watching your favorite show, jump around during the commercial breaks rather than fast forwarding your DVR!
  • Jog in place while making dinner or watching soccer practice

*For an extra boost: Treat yourself to a night out on the town with friends and dance the night away . You’ll have so much fun, you won’t even notice you’ve burned so many calories!

Once you get used to five minutes, five times a day, you can work your way up to six times a day or even do 10-minute workouts! Remember, there are no rules, you just have to get moving. Come up with new, fun ways to workout to spice up your routine and you’ll have that celebrity body in no-time!

Jennifer Aniston always looks amazing!

So there you go!  You can have a celebrity body without the expensive gym membership, or the time! Work it out girls!

Peace, Love and Sexiness!

Star Stalkers

Posted on 22 Jul 2010 at 8:09pm

Being in the spotlight isn’t always glamorous. While having to deal with constant media speculation about their love lives, A-listers such as Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock have also had to deal with stalkers.

According to E-Online, Jennifer Aniston obtained a restraining order against a man who was found waiting at her house holding a sharp object, a bag, duct tape, and written messages. The 24-year-old Pennsylvania man, Jason Peyton, has a history of violence and criminal stalking. He told police, “Jennifer communicated to me mentally that she wants me to come and marry her, and wants me to be the father of her children.” The restraining order now restricts him from being within 100 yards from her at all times.

Sandra Bullock also renewed a restraining order on Monday against a 41-year-old man who has been stalking her since 2003, according to the Associated Press. Last month the stalker, Thomas James Weldon, entered a hospital in Wyoming and told staff he had driven from Tennessee to meet the Oscar-winning actress at her home. Bullock sued the state of Tennessee in 2006 to notify her of Weldon’s release from the mental institution. He has since sent Bullock numerous faxes and emails which has led her to renew an order to keep Weldon from visiting any of her homes or movie sets.

This is a very scary thing that many celebrities, public figures, athletes and anyone in the public eye experience.  Stay safe!

Best and Worst of the Oscars

Posted on 24 Feb 2009 at 8:06pm

Best surprise: With song/dance man Hugh Jackman as host, surprise presenters, and funny gag bits, the Oscar’s was one of the most entertaining it’s been in a long time. (Ratings were even up 6 percent from last year’s telecast.)

Worst surprise: Chances are you won your office pool because just about no surprise winners threw off our ballots. “Slumdog Millionaire” cleaned up winning 8 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay as predicted, and Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger, and Penélope Cruz won as expected. The biggest upset was Sean Penn winning Best Actor over Mickey Rourke, but really we all knew it was between the two anyway.

Worst use of presenting the Best Pictures:  Up until the last ten minutes of the show, you wouldn’t even know which films were nominated for Best Picture, and isn’t this what the night was really all about? Instead of showcasing clips throughout the night like usual, the clips were only shown right before the award was handed out. Even worse, they were intermingled with previous films that have similar themes making the clips confusing and taking attention away from the nominees.

Best presentation of movies: The montages of film genres recapping the best of 2008 were done so in great pop culture fashion. Coldplay’s “Lovers in Japan” played to the great romance flicks, Wall-E the adorable robot found a tape of the best animation movies, and the hilarious James Franco and Seth Rogen reprised their “Pineapple Express” roles as they watched DVDs of the funniest comedies.

Worst use of presenting the Best Songs: The song nominees, which are usually played in their entirety throughout the night, also weren’t given their full due. The two “Slumdog Millionaire” songs and “Wall-E” song were shortened and played one after the other. We all knew “Jai Ho” was going to win, but “Wall-E” should have been given it’s own set piece rather than making John Legend sing with “Slumdog’s” Indian back-up dancers and drummers.

Best use of presenting awards: Rather than randomly presenting awards, the telecast walked the audience through the making of a movie starting with the screenwriting process to art direction to editing. Stars associated with the category was also a nice touch like action hero Will Smith presenting Best Visual Effects and Sound Mixing and “Religious” filmmaker Bill Maher presenting Best Documentary.

Best presenters: Steve Martin and Tina Fey presented the screenplay awards humorously (“Don’t fall in love with me” Martin stoically told a googly eyed Fey) and controversially (poking fun at Hollywood-favorite Scientology). And don’t forget about Ben Stiller who delivered a dead-on impression of Joaquin Phoenix’s bizarre appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” while presenting with Natalie Portman. It would have been even funnier though if it wasn’t just parodied at the previous night’s Independent Spirit Awards.

Best use of presenters: Keeping most of the identities of the presenters top-secret beforehand made for a more exciting show because you never knew who was going to come out next. Hello Will Smith, hello Reese Witherspoon!

Worst use of presenters: While it was fun seeing past winners like Nicole Kidman, Robert De Niro, and Christopher Walken, presenting the nominees, it came off too self-congratulatory. Instead of comments like “You really nailed it” and Marion Cotillard clasping her hands together cooing “Thank you” to Winslet, let’s see some clips instead. Most viewers at home haven’t seen all the movies, so it’d be more interesting to see the performances for which they’re nominated.

Best acceptance speech: Instead of the director or co-stars accepting on his behalf, the acceptance of Heath Ledger’s Oscar by his family was much more touching. “Tonight we are choosing to be happy and celebrate what he has achieved,” his mother, Sally Bell, said.

Funniest acceptance speeches: Where to begin? First there’s Phillipe Petit, the subject of the documentary, “Man on Wire,” who not only balanced the Oscar on his chin, he also made a coin disappear.  Then the Japanese director of the Best Animated Short, “Kunio Kato thanked Mr. Roboto.” Finally, Best Director, Danny Boyle, bounced up and down in homage of Tigger for his children.

Worst camera shots: Awkward alert… Not only did Jennifer Aniston have to present an award mere feet away from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the camera cut away to Brangelina twice! At least Jolie and Pitt made nice and weren’t giving dirty looks.

Best use of teeny boppers: While baby faced stars like Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Robert Pattinson, and Amanda Seyfried presented and performed on stage to most likely draw in the younger audience, their presence was downplayed and didn’t make the Oscars feel like the Teen Choice Awards.

Best secret talent: Anne Hathaway showed off her really good voice in her pretend-impromptu song and dance number with Jackman. Look out Beyoncé. Maybe you won’t be needed next year.

Here are the winners of the major categories:

Best Picture: “Slumdog Millionaire”

Best Actor: Sean Penn, “Milk”

Best Actress: Kate Winslet, “The Reader”

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”

Best Supporting Actress: Penélope Cruz, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”

Best Director: Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire”

“Marley & Me”: It’s About Much More Than Just The Dog

Posted on 07 Jan 2009 at 2:14pm

“Marley & Me” isn’t what you think – or at least if you haven’t read the best-selling memoir of the same title on which it’s based. If you only saw the TV commercials, you’d think it was just about a yellow lab who’s as adorable as he is rambunctious.

Instead, the film is more about the lives of John and Jenny Grogan (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston) as they start their lives together as a married couple, relocate to Florida, make career advancements and transitions, and have children. Meanwhile, there’s always Marley.

Marley joined the Grogan family shortly after John and Jenny got married as John’s way of temporarily avoiding a baby when Jenny got baby fever. Marley was supposed to be a great dog who would bring them joy and fun, but we immediately learn that Marley is far from perfect. He chews drywall, swallows a brand new, expensive necklace, jumps out of a car window on his way to be neutered, sends the Grogans on high-speed chases down the beach and through neighbors’ backwards and so on. To quote John himself, Marley is “the world’s worst dog.”

Yet, the movie effectively shows that Marley stands in for one’s life fantasies gone wrong. Just as Marley who was supposed to be the perfect dog turned into the world’s worst dog, the Grogan’s perfect life does not work out the way they planned.

John and Jenny were both successful newspaper writers – John a reporter and Jenny a features writer. Jenny soon quits work to be a full-time mother, and John transitions into a lifestyles columnist with Marley’s antics supplying the bulk of his hugely successful columns.

But John never wanted to be a columnist. In fact, he’s envious of his friend Sebastian’s successes. Sebastian (“Grey’s Anatomy’s” Eric Dane) isn’t tied down by a wife and family, he’s free to travel the world reporting on in-depth stories, and eventually leaves the Florida newspaper they work at to write for The New York Times. John longs to once again be a reporter covering serious topics and subsequently moves his family to Pennsylvania where he can take a reporting job.

Yet, John’s not happy doing that either. In a far cry from the movie’s fun, upbeat commercials about a crazy dog, “Marley & Me” is actually quite dismaying at times. As the Grogans struggle with unhappiness, fights, crying babies, and Marley’s constant unruliness, it makes me wonder why people even have kids or get married in the first place.

This movie shows our lives at its worst. (This mature situation, however, is a great vehicle for Wilson, an eternal boy-man, to flex his acting chops, and he proves he can indeed play a real adult).

Marley, however, isn’t really the world’s worst dog as John later tells him when he realized how important he is to him and his family, and their lives really weren’t always that bad either. Even though Marley was usually a walking, wagging disaster, he was with them through the good and bad times of their lives.

But Marley also helps the film resonate more with its viewers because almost everyone can relate to the power of the dog-human connection. If you don’t like dogs, this film may not be for you.

If you do love dogs, however, the film still may disappoint you at times. It focuses too much on Marley’s bad traits instead of also showing the endearing ones, and it drags out some scenes at the end too much. While this film is about family, it might not be the best film for the whole family to see, especially the little ones.

In essence, this movie effectively captures the ups and downs of people’s lives and that you can’t plan your life. The film starts with Jenny telling John that marrying him was the first step in her plan; but, by the end of the film her plan filled with essential life steps is obsolete and we all know it.

Positively Hottest Celebrity Trends of 2008

Posted on 01 Jan 2009 at 9:42pm

With 2009 here – what a better time to reminisce over 2008’s big celeb trends?

These are not your mother’s pearls. Double Strand Pearls made a statement in 2008, adding a classic piece to edgy looks like Ashlee Simpson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow.

She’s all legs. Though some of us might run screaming in the other direction from wearing skin tight leggings- Not Rihanna, Heidi Klum and Ashley Olson. These fashionistas show off their good fortune in shiny, latex leggings that leave hardly anything to the imagination.

Navy Dresses. Always sleek and sophisticated, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Claire Danes sparkle in these sapphire dresses.

I love scarves, pashminas and this trend! Heidi Montag, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria Parker amped up the basic tote with fun and useful patterned scarves. Take note 2009-this trend is to stay!

Gladiator heels were a big 2008 trend.  Ashley Olsen, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Heidi Klum wear a stylish of the strappy heel.

Blazers over dresses offered a chic and stylish way to cover up flirty dresses.  Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Whitney Port still look cool and fashionable in their fitted blazers.
