With 2009 here – what a better time to reminisce over 2008’s big celeb trends?
These are not your mother’s pearls. Double Strand Pearls made a statement in 2008, adding a classic piece to edgy looks like Ashlee Simpson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow.
She’s all legs. Though some of us might run screaming in the other direction from wearing skin tight leggings- Not Rihanna, Heidi Klum and Ashley Olson. These fashionistas show off their good fortune in shiny, latex leggings that leave hardly anything to the imagination.
Navy Dresses. Always sleek and sophisticated, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Claire Danes sparkle in these sapphire dresses.
I love scarves, pashminas and this trend! Heidi Montag, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria Parker amped up the basic tote with fun and useful patterned scarves. Take note 2009-this trend is to stay!
Gladiator heels were a big 2008 trend. Ashley Olsen, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Heidi Klum wear a stylish of the strappy heel.
Blazers over dresses offered a chic and stylish way to cover up flirty dresses. Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Whitney Port still look cool and fashionable in their fitted blazers.
Instead of talking about the Harry Potter’s, 2012’s or The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’s of 2009 that are so far away from hitting theaters it seems like they won’t premiere until … well 2012, we’re going to look at five upcoming flicks that will be at a theater near you before the Obama’s have time to fully move in.
Bride Wars – Opening January 9, 2009. There’s nothing like sharing wedding plans with a best girlfriend, but when plans start to overlap, it’s likely to evoke more nightmares than Freddy Krueger. “Wars” seems to have a bouquet of comedic potential as well as girls in white dresses – fighting. But before all the guys zone out this movie does offer something for them too. Two of the prettiest actresses in Hollywood – Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson.
Taken – Opening January 30, 2009. Staring Liam Neeson as an ex-Secret Agent who has to rescue his estranged daughter (former “Lost” star Maggie Grace) who was kiddnapped while in Paris. As reviewer Mr. Green from CrimeCritics.com describes, “it’s a film in which you enjoy watching HOW he will succeed. And let me state, you will enjoy every punch Bryan (Neeson) delivers to every henchmen.”
Fanboys – Opening February 6, 2009. I think “Fanboys” will be the “Superbad” of 2009. Yes, it’s about a group of “Star Wars” fans set to break into George Lucas’ business headquarters, Skywalker Ranch, and steal a copy of “Star Wars Episode 1.” Before you groan at the sound of a Sci-Fi movie, know that it’s really a coming of age story about friends who take a huge risk for one of their own. To lend some credibility, Producers include Kevin Spacey and the Weinstein Company.
He’s Just Not That Into You – Opening February 9, 2009. This chick flick makes the list because: 1) it’s based on a NY Times Best Seller, Oprah endorsed book and 2) EVERYONE is in it. That’s no exaggeration. Here’s just some of the cast: Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love), Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly (The Day The Earth Stood Still), Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck, Justin Long (Mac commercials), Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Sasha Alexander (Yes Man), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), and MANY others.
Push – Opening February 9, 2009. Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans and Djimon Hounsou star in this film about “psychic espionage.” A Government agency is genetically modifying people to have psychic abilities and “getting rid” of those who don’t want to participate. Fanning and Evans need to find an individual who could help end the dangerous agency. So, Government Misconduct + Exotic Location (Hong Kong) + Psychic, Telekinetic, Move Stuff With Your Mind Abilities + The Cinematographer Who Did “Donnie Brasco,” “Gangster No. 1,” “Wicker Park” & “Lucky Number Slevin” = A Must See Movie!
Angelina Jolie wielded a gun in this summer’s action flick, “Wanted,” but the role also helped her get the most bang out of her buck. In The Hollywood Reporter’s list of highest-earning actresses released on Friday, Jolie came in at No. 1.
The Oscar winner, who was No. 2 last year, reportedly made $15 million for her assassin role in “Wanted” and could make $20 for the sequel.
It’s been almost 20 years since she burst onto the scene in “Pretty Woman,” but Julia Roberts proved she can still garner big money. She made the list at No. 2 for making $15 million for her upcoming film, “Duplicity.”
Other big movie stars of Robert’s caliber, however, didn’t make the cut this year. Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry are both Oscar winners like Jolie and Roberts but failed to garner a $10 million salary from any of their movies.
Last year’s highest-earning actress, Reese Witherspoon, slipped to No. 3 for earning $14 million for “Four Christmases,” which has been No. 1 at the box office for the past two weeks.
Cameron Diaz, Katherine Heigl (who made her debut on the list), Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Aniston, who made $8 million for the upcoming “Marley and Me,” rounded out the list.
Despite the power wattage from these actresses, the Y chromosome still helps to make the big bucks. Will Smith can make up to $25 million per movie and Brad Pitt can get up to $20 million.
Nevertheless, Shiloh et. al have some rich movie star parents.
Rumors have been put to rest once again regarding Jennifer Aniston’s suspected pregnancy. Reconciliation with her boyfriend John Mayer, 31, from their split in August has inevitably started up the rumor mill again for Jen.
Being in a relationship apparently qualifies her to be pregnant. Previously speculated fathers of her “supposed child” include Vince Vaughn, Paul Sculfor, and Sex in the City’s Jason Lewis.
Recently In Touch claimed on its cover that Jen, 39, “looks pregnant” and speculated that the Aniston and Mayer reunion was due to a pregnancy.
“It’s not true,” a souse close to Mayer told Usmagazine.com.
Nonetheless, the couple can’t seem to get the tabloids off their case.
Check out our favorite girl, Jen Aniston. No John Mayer tears here, she heated up the frozen Toronto Film Festival with a sexy, little, black Balenciaga dress. Less is certainly more with a long sparkling pendent and strappy sandals to add a perfect finish. Get yours! Calvin Klein has a basic, black sheath for $138.00, People Magazine reports.
Jessica Alba is playing designer’s pet. At the Narcisco Rodriguez show at NYC’s fashion week, Alba glows in the artist’s peach, silk dress. Add rosy checks, smooth, sexy bangs and a sweet bow for a look that is as innocent as it is HOT.
British bomb shell Victoria Beckham, at Marc Jacobs show at Fashion Week, arrived hand-in-hand with J Lo and had our mouths gaping. Posh stole the spotlight with a new pixie cut, paired with a tiny, strapless, black dress from her own line. Don’t forget, not that you could miss it, the $17 million, 19 karat, Shopart diamond ring on her finger!
But who could forget about Britney Spears?! The girl is on her way back. At the VMA’s she sparkled in a custom-made, silver Versace dress and Jimmy Choo heels.

Say what you will about celebrities.
They’re getting arrested, or about to get arrested, or in the nude on YouTube, or throwing a tantrum.
But when the call goes out for help, you can count on them to show their support. As is the case with the ever-growing fundraiser, “Stand Up to Cancer,” to be shown simultaneously on ABC, CBS, NBC and E! Entertainment on September 5.
The roster includes a who’s who among top-ranking celebrities, with showings expected by Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, Halle Berry, Kate Bosworth, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kirsten Dunst, Melissa Etheridge, America Ferrera, Scarlett Johansson, Rob Lowe, Meryl Streep and Charlize Theron…and there are bound to be more last-minute commitments so stay tuned.
The Office star Rainn Wilson leaves his cubicle to play a has-been rocker in the aptly titled The Rocker opening Wednesday. It’s too soon to see how the movie career of Wilson, best known for dorky Dwight will fare, but in the meantime let’s take a look back at the best TV to movie crossovers.
George Clooney The Emmy-nominated ER doc hung up his scrubs for a successful movie career that spans box-office commercial fare (the Ocean’s Eleven franchise) to the critically acclaimed (winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Syriana). He’s also established himself as a bona fide writer and director with Good Night, and Good Luck.

Johnny Depp Now known for his chameleon-like ability to immerse himself into eccentric characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd and Willy Wonka, Depp got his start playing a baby-faced undercover cop in 21 Jump Street.
Leonardo DiCaprio Before he sailed on the Titanic, DiCaprio played a scrawny teen in Growing Pains. Now he’s grown up and starring in critically acclaimed films like The Departed and Blood Diamond while scoring three Oscar noms.

Denzel Washington The St. Elsewhere star is another sexy TV doc who rocketed to the A-List with a number of classic films like Malcolm X and Training Day, for which he won an Oscar.
Jennifer Aniston The Friends star has starred in numerous films such as Office Space, The Good Girl, Derailed and The Break-Up; yet, she’s still best known as Rachel. But several upcoming films like Marley and Me may make us forget about that New York waitress with cute hair.
Steve Carell He’s just as good at getting laughs in films like The 40-Year Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine and Get Smart as he does in The Office, but he also kept it real with low key film Dan in Real Life.
Bruce Willis With classic films like the Die Hard franchise and The Sixth Sense, one almost forgets he won a Golden Globe for his TV show, Moonlighting.
Helen Hunt The Mad About You star went on to win an Oscar for As Good As It Gets and to star in Twister, but then she disappeared until this year’s underwhelming Then She Found Me, in which she starred, directed and co-wrote.
