Amazing news, SATC fans! Carrie Bradshaw lives again! Well, a much younger Carrie that we’ve never seen on screen before. Right now, she exists only on the pages of Candace Bushnell’s novel, “The Carrie Diaries.” But not for long!
Deadline Hollywood confirms that The CW network has purchased the project and has “Gossip Girl” producers on board! OMG, this is going to be so good! “The Carrie Diaries” was aimed at young adults, and follows Carrie Bradshaw’s high school drama as a small town girl. Who was Carrie Bradshaw before cosmos, Manolos and Mr. Big? I can’t wait to find out!
The best part? All parties involved are playing nice with HBO, and the writers can borrow from “Sex And The City” in this new show. Sorry, no SJP appearances to speak of so far, but we’ll keep you posted!

Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted wearing Black Orchid’s Black Jewel Skinny Twill while out with son James Wilkie. Always the fashion icon, our favorite Sex and the City gal paired her twills with a simple top and wedges for a casually sophisticated look. Other celebrities, including Rebecca Gayheart have also been photographed in the trendy twills.

Rumors have been put to rest once again regarding Jennifer Aniston’s suspected pregnancy. Reconciliation with her boyfriend John Mayer, 31, from their split in August has inevitably started up the rumor mill again for Jen.
Being in a relationship apparently qualifies her to be pregnant. Previously speculated fathers of her “supposed child” include Vince Vaughn, Paul Sculfor, and Sex in the City’s Jason Lewis.
Recently In Touch claimed on its cover that Jen, 39, “looks pregnant” and speculated that the Aniston and Mayer reunion was due to a pregnancy.
“It’s not true,” a souse close to Mayer told Usmagazine.com.
Nonetheless, the couple can’t seem to get the tabloids off their case.
Your mom has probably read Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees.
Hell, you may have read The Secret Life of Bees. Like most best-selling books, a film adaptation apparently was needed.
With an all star cast, this latest film “from the best-selling book” is a worthy adaptation. Of course the book is better, they always are. Always. But the film stands on its own quite well.
The women in the film are all powerful and strong in their own right. Jennifer Hudson also shows that her mediocre part in Sex and the City was perhaps just bad writing not bad acting.
Is Secret Life of Bees worth the price of admission? For a Sunday matinee? Sure. Otherwise…mmmmm not so much.
The 60th Emmy Awards this past September turned up some first time winners and nominees like Bryan Cranston, Gabriel Byrne, Lee Pace and others. The 2008 Oscars also introduced first time nominees and winners such as: Tony Gilroy, Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton, just to name a few. But does adding “Award Winner” or “Nominee” to a resume help a career? Let’s take a look at winners and nominees from the 2000 awards season to see if Oscar or Emmy has helped them climb the Hollywood ladder.
The 2000 Academy Awards gave Russell Crowe his first nomination for “The Insider.” Since then, he’s seen his most notable role yet as Maximus in “Gladiator,” which lead to an Oscar win. He also received another nomination for “A Beautiful Mind.” Just an Oscar nomination has lead this actor into stardom.
Hilary Swank had her first nomination and win for “Boys Don’t Cry.” She has since gained an Oscar for “Million Dollar Baby” where she worked with acclainmed director Clint Eastwood. Julianne Moore received her second nomination for “The End of the Affair” which has lead to staring in movies with Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep, Clive Owen and others. On the flip side, Janet McTeer collected her first and only Oscar nomination. She has done other projects, but nothing to the magnitude of “Tumbleweeds.”
The Best Actor in a Supporting Role category introduced newcomers Michael Clarke Duncan, Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law. All three have had hugely successful careers since their nominations. Duncan had a reccuring role in the “The Whole Nine Yards” series and has costared with Will Ferrell, John C. Rielly, and Clive Owen. Osment received nominations for “Pay it Forward” and “Artificial Intelligence: A.I.” Jude Law has had staring roles in “Enemy at the Gate,” “Road to Perdition,” and “Cold Mountain.”
The Best Director category brought the first win for Sam Mendes director of “American Beauty.” Mendes later heads up films such as “Road to Perdition” and “Jarheads.” This category also saw the first (and only) nomination for Spike Jonze director of “Being John Malkovich.” He will later direct “Adaptation.”
Switching to the Emmy’s and their effect on the crew that works for the small screen.
In the Outstanding Drama Series category, the winner was new TV drama “The West Wing.” This was the first nomination and win for the series, which continued gaining momentum in 2002 and 2003 by winning the same award and picking up Emmy’s in multiple categories each year it was on the air. Viewership topped out at 15 million per week on average! Emmy worked her magic on this beloved television show.
The Outstanding Lead Actor for a Drama showcased James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano. His second nomination, but first win (he will also win in 2001 and 2003) encouraged a proserous career completing nine films so far. On the other hand, Jerry Orbach’s first and only nomination for his work on “NYPD Blue” never landed him a statue or another Emmy nomination.
Leading Actress in a Comedy Series went to Debra Barone aka Patricia Heaton. She will also win in 2001, but only receive nominations after that. She recently stared in a show with fellow 2000 nominee Kelsey Grammer, but it was canceled. Two of the other four nominees have shows currently on television, Jane Kaczmarek and Debra Messing, proving that awards don’t necessarily improve a resume.
2000’s Emmy’s brought Thomas Schlamme a directing award for “The West Wing.” He would eventually win one more for directing. He would later direct the short lived “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” Allen Coulter, another 2000 directing nominee, directed or has worked on multiple highly accredited TV shows such as “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City”, “Rome” and others, but no Emmy wins so far.
The 2000’s Emmy’s brought a win (and two nominations for two episodes) to writer and creator Aaron Sorkin for “The West Wing” during its second year on the air. After “West Wing’s” end, Sorkin worked on a similar style show “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” which ran for a year. He switched to film, working on critically acclaimed “Charlie Wilson’s War” in which he received a Golden Globe nomination. He’s currently working on two films as a writer making those Emmy statuettes work for his credibility. For writer Linwood Boomer, it’s a different story. 2000 would be the only Emmy for this writer for his work on “Malcolm in the Middle” even though he received one other nomination the following year. To date, “Malcolm in the Middle” was the last show he worked on, which ended in 2006.
It seems that being handed a statue with your name on it has a 50/50 chance of bettering your career in the compeititve entertainment world. You’re either a Jude Law or a Linwood Boomer.
The 81st Academy Awards will occur on February 22, 2009.

Chris Noth, a.k.a. Mr. Big, famed paramour of Carrie Bradshaw on HBO’s super series Sex and the City will not be returning for season eight of Law & Order: Criminal Intent shown on the USA network.
Noth (rhymes with ‘both’), who originated the character of New York police Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order in 1990, will pursue the bad guys one last time this Sunday night as Noth exits the show. It’s still a mystery how Logan will be written off. Will Logan go quietly? Kicking and screaming? Wearing cement overshoes?
Although Noth will miss his Law & Order family, he is sure to stay busy keeping tabs on the lounge and music club he co-owns in the Flat Iron District of Manhattan, “The Cutting Room”.
Fans of Mr. Big will be happy to know that Noth, a graduate of Yale School of Drama, intends to keep on acting. Besides the sequel to the recent smash film, Sex and the City, fans can look forward to seeing Noth again on the big screen, since he is now shooting a movie with co-star Renee Zellweger in the upcoming dramedy, My One and Only.
Mike Logan is one of the most popular detectives in television history, according to Dick Wolf, Law & Order franchise guru. New Yorker Noth enjoyed playing Det. Logan and loved shooting Law & Order on location in New York City. Noth says, “The last few years have been fantastic: ‘All’s well that ends well.’”
The warm and fuzzy sequel “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2″ starring Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn explores situations such as estranged grandmothers, a pregnancy scare, forgiveness, and discovering independence. It is being compared to “Sex and the City,” but the two movies only have one common trait – four talented leading actresses. The acting and relationships are sweet and genuine, which makes watching this movie an emotional roller coaster.
Pros:
Seeing what family means to the different girls.
Without these actors, it would be a different movie – this is a terrific collection of actors who have had some time to develop their acting abilities – and it shows!
It’s not about men – Nor is it solely about finding the perfect man or getting married (which, as a woman, I really appreciate).
Cons:
The character of Julia – at first, “Julia” was a “Pro” because, despite being disappointed by losing a lead role in a play to friend Carmen (Ferrera), she encourages her – at first. But, by the end, she’s become the mean girl stereotype we were expecting. Very disappointing.
The movie is a little long.
Unique Qualities:
The acting talent is obvious. Each girl is a team player in an ensemble but steps up to the plate to take the lead in their own scenes. Their acting feels true, making this a unique quality in the context of the other summer movies this year.
Is the not-so-hot economy affecting Hollywood? Let’s investigate.
According to a press release on the Disney (including Miramax) official site, profits decreased by 2% for the months of April, May and June compared to January, February and March with total profits of $1,433 million. They are also down 2% from the same quarter last year. Biggest Box Office Hit for April, May & June, “Wall E.”
In an article on the Examiner.com it states that Paramount/Viacom’s (including DreamWorks) profits are up 35% for April, May and June in comparison to a year ago. By this three months’ end their profits equal $1,771 million. They are up 55% from the previous quarter. Biggest Box Office Hit for April, May & June, “Iron Man.”
A Time Warner press release showed a 14% increase for April, May and June over last year (“The Dark Knight” was not in theaters yet). Profits for filmed entertainment totaled $2,564 million, which is a 9% decrease from January, February and March’s totals. Biggest Box Office Hit for April, May & June, “Sex and the City.”
NBC Universal (GE) profits are up 7% from April, May and June of 2007 and up 8% from January, February and March as stated in a GE release. Biggest Box Office Hit for April, May & June, “Wanted.”
News Corp’s earnings release for 20th Century Fox for April, May, and June quarter showed their total profits equaled $220 million a 16% decrease from January, February and March. Their profits only equaled $106 million during April, May, and June 2007. Biggest Box Office Hit for April, May & June, “What Happens in Vegas.”
In the end, we have 4 areas of decreasing profits, showing the economy may be affecting things. But there are also 5 areas with increasing profits, possibly a sign that movie goers haven’t given up their popcorn addictions just yet. With an incredible summer of blockbusters and A List ensemble casts, it seems that although Wall Street is a buzz with red down arrows, Hollywood is still a buzz with millions of green, maybe just not as many as last year.
