J Lo’s Triumphant Triathlon

Posted on 14 Sep 2008 at 12:31am

The 39-year-old singer/actress was among her Wedding Planner co-star, Matthew McConaughey, and hundreds of other participants for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sunday morning.

The annual event benefits the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ Pediatric Cancer Research Program.  The race itself is comprised of a half-mile ocean swim, 18-mile bike ride and four-mile run.

Lopez finished in two hours, 23 minutes and 28 seconds, according to People magazine.  McConaughey finished in one hour, 30 minutes and 44.7 seconds.

US Weekly reports that at the finish line, Lopez pumped her arms in the air and smiled.  Her husband Marc Anthony was on the sidelines to greet her.

She thanked the crowed for their support and expressed excitement for the amount of money that was raised.

“Hopefully it’ll go to good use,” she said.

Lopez’s participation alone raised $127,000 for the Children’s Hospital of L.A. and the event overall raised $950,000.

The new mom said last month on Good Morning America that she was inspired to run a triathlon while eight months pregnant with her twins Max and Emme, who were born in February.

“I was beached like a whale,” Lopez said.  While watching TV one day she saw a triathlon and said ‘You know what?  I think I could do that, that would be great for me to do,’ she explained.

Not Your Typical Night at the Opera

Posted on 04 Sep 2008 at 2:23pm

Forget your viewing glasses and black and white refinery at home; this is a different kind of Opera.

Another David Judaken production and formerly known as Mood, this venue is an upscale destination located on Hollywood Boulevard and Schrader on Los Angeles.

Most recently, the celeb-heavy club was featured on MTV phenomenon show, The Hills

Lauren Conrad and her cohorts aren’t the only hot Hollywood figures to hit this venue; Paris Hilton, Travis Barker, Britney Spears, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Connelly and Tyson Beckford, all pack a star-powered punch on any given night of the week.

Expect to encounter the paparazzi gauntlet on your way to the velvet rope.

True to it’s theme, Opera serves up signature drinks like The Fat Lady Sings and The Phantom. Average drink prices are about $12.

Opera also shares an entrance with its next-door neighbor, the more rock-and-roll Crimson. Together, these venues can be hired for private parties to accommodate a combined 700 partygoers. Opera was host of this year’s US Weekly’s annual Hot Hollywood awards.

Gossip Girls of the Week: Sarah and Bristol Palin

Posted on 03 Sep 2008 at 2:08pm

What began as a circulating Internet rumor has become a full-blown media circus in the announcement of Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy. The issue of Bristol Palin’s teen pregnancy—she is 17—is the hot topic, overshadowing the coverage of the RNC in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Teen pregnancy issues aside, Sarah Palin outshines her running-mate John McCain in media coverage and is featured on the cover of four gossip-oriented weeklies including the National Enquirer, OK!, US Weekly, and People.

Never before has there been such an emphasis on the American political stars in entertainment news and gossip. Not to be outdone by the Republicans in the gossip-arena, first lady in waiting Michelle Obama has been a cover girl too.

Which begs the question: when did politics get so entertaining?
